As I said a few days ago written by, the Android 12 update for the Mi 11, Mi 11i and Mi 11 Ultra is already in the test phase. This update was only available to Mi Pilot, the in-house testers, where by installing it, testers accept the risk that the update released may not be bug-free.

At the end of the previous paragraph, we can turn two words around, because the update must not have been flawless. So much so that the update can cause a hardbrick, a nice English jargon that can be best explained as "after installation, the phone will only have as much functionality as a brick".

The following updates are affected:

  • V12.5.1.0.SKBMIXM
  • V12.5.1.0.SKKMIXM
  • V12.5.1.0.SKAMIXM

Again, it is important to stress that the problem only occurred for users who tested the update in advance and not for everyone. So you, dear reader, if you are not a tester, should not be afraid of getting an update for the affected phones that would prevent you from using your phone.

I could say that it happens, but of course there is more to it than that, but if you are using test software, you should be prepared for that. There is a reason why Xiaomi encourages test users to back up before every update.

Otherwise, the new Android version after 3 years gets a candy name again. Next in line is the letter S, which reminds the developers of the Snow Cone.
