Google Maps is adding a cycling feature to Google Maps, which in addition to simple navigation will also inform you about the steepness of the road, among other things.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced yesterday that starting today, new features will be rolled out continuously until next year to promote green living. As part of this Google Map is also undergoing changes, including the arrival of a new feature called lite navigation, which will make driving easier for people on two wheels.

Although cycling navigation is already offered by Google Map, the new service will be tailored specifically to cyclists' needs, so it will include extra information such as the steepness of the road, so no one will be surprised if they have to cycle uphill. Google says that lite navigation will be available to all users in the coming months.

But that's not the only new feature for Google's map service, as cyclists and motorists will also benefit from a really useful and powerful feature: available in the US from yesterday and in Europe from 2022, the service will not only offer the shortest route, but also the one that uses the least fuel. To calculate this, the company uses artificial intelligence, which takes into account traffic, road steepness and topography, among other factors, to offer the greenest route.
