We've been looking forward to August 10, not only because of the Mi Mix 4 and Mi Pad 5, but also because of the MIUI 13 for the presentation of. Well, it was cancelled because there is only an internal alpha version, not a public one. But instead we got something else called MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition.

MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition promises faster memory management, faster application management. No new features, just a faster system!

Decompartmentalisation

One innovation is improved de-fragmentation. Old Win fans know exactly what this means. Applications and of course the whole system create files, delete files, modify files. An average Android system doesn't care about this, nor do competing solutions. But the new MIUI takes great care to do this, too, making the system run smoother with 60%.

Tested on a Xiaomik Mi 11 Pro phone, after 36 months of use, the backend fragmentation remained below 5%. This guarantees smooth operation even after many months, as if the system was still new.

Ultrafine memory management

The high memory requirements result in more frequent background cleaning and reloading. The improved version of MIUI 12.5 adds atomic memory. Self-researching and optimized for the memory management mechanism, allowing applications to be kept stable.

Extremely fine-grained memory management, shared application memory, prioritising the completion of non-essential tasks and refining and compressing memory usage. As an example, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Extreme Edition's rear resident capacity has increased by 64%.

Focus calculation

All application processes require processor operations and scheduling processor resources appropriately is crucial. The enhanced version of MIUI 12.5 enables focus calculations and self-scanning optimization for processor scheduling, making the experience smoother.

Focus calculation: 51 basic scenes are accelerated smoothly and comprehensively. The most obvious processes perceived by the current user are first calculated based on the scenes and any insignificant applications in the background are suppressed. Actual measurements of several models show an average reduction in CPU utilization of 15% and an average reduction in power consumption of 8%.

Smart balance

With the continuous development of flagship screens and chips, mobile phone performance is improving, while power consumption is also increasing. The enhanced version of MIUI 12.5 adds a smart balance that intelligently allocates hardware performance and power consumption and strives to balance performance and power consumption.

Smart balance: on the scene, it lets the best hardware operate in a balanced comfort zone most of the time. Take the Xiaomi 11 as an example, average power consumption is reduced by 10%.

Now that I've whipped up enough excitement, I'll tell you which phones will be the first to get the new MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition:

  • Xiaomi Mi Mix 4
  • Xiaomi Mi 11 / 11 Ultra / 11 Pro
  • Xiaomi Mi 10 / 10S / 10 Pro / 10 Extreme
  • Redmi K40 / K40 Pro
  • Redmi K30 Pro / K30S Extreme

For the time being, the new, improved MIUI 12.5 is only available for these Chinese domestic phones, with no news on global distribution yet. The update has already begun, with the Mi Mix 4 receiving it first, but is likely to be completed later this month for all 12 phones. The good news for custom roms is that they will get the system built on top of it! Like xiaomi.eu, which will be just as good, for the global versions.
