In a lengthy blog post, Facebook has reported on the types of posts that are being pushed to fewer users in order to keep the community safe. 

Facebook uses a variety of algorithms to ensure that content relevant to users is included in the content stream, but in recent years there has also been an increasing focus on limiting the spread of problematic or low-quality posts in the newsfeed. The social networking site has repeatedly stressed the importance it attaches to slowing down the spread of this type of content, and a few days ago it officially defined the guidelines that the algorithm will follow to prioritise certain posts in the feed.

According to Writing cites dozens of examples, including posts that use clickbait methods to attract users and articles where the identity of the author is unclear. Content posted by repeat offenders and content that contains links to suspicious sites are also penalised.

The The Vergein an interview with Jason Hirsch, the Facebook said that they want to make clear which posts, although they display problematic content, they do not consider it necessary to remove from the newsfeed. He added that he hoped that the company would be able to provide more information about the policy over time, including, for example, what methods are used to cut back on this type of content.
