Android 12 was announced at Google I/O in May. Since then, beta versions have been available for a number of devices, including some Xiaomi phones.

A few years ago, the process of beta testing for Pixel users only began to expand considerably, and now the new major version is officially available for beta testing on other manufacturers' phones.

Kornél's article revealed, the following phones are currently available with the Android 12 beta for pure Android (i.e. without MIUI):

  • Xiaomi Mi 11 / Lite 5G / Pro / Ultra
  • Xiaomi Mi 11i / 11X / 11X Pro
  • Xiaomi Mi 10S
  • Redmi K40 / K40 Pro / K40 Pro+

This may sound small, but these beta releases are mainly for developers and enterprising experts, who usually choose from the top end of the range (there are always exceptions, of course).

It comes, it comes, but what does it bring?

One of the main new features in Android 12 is Material You theming, which allows much greater customisation than before. If you're not familiar with pure Android, or can't suddenly think of what it is, well, it's the system that ran on the Mi A series, the last Mi A phone, the You can read our A3 test here.

However, Xiaomi has the MIUI interface, which is based on Android, but it's a completely different interface, very different from Google's solution, so when it's built into the system, it's a question of what we'll get out of this themability.
