A little tidbit for statistics lovers.

The month of April brought another record-breaking month for Xiaomi, as it became the first manufacturer to sell smartphones in China. The country is still the biggest buying market in the world, but the pace is starting to slow. Almost everyone in the country who has been clamouring to own a smartphone has already bought one.

The CEO of Chinese market research firm SINO posted a chart on Weibo showing that Xiaomi claimed 26% of last month's smartphone sales, followed by Huawei-owned Honor with 15.7%, while LeTV managed to take third place with 10.5%.

After a rough second fiscal quarter (January to March), a period when iPhone sales were down 26% year-on-year in the Greater China region, Apple gained 8.2% market share in April. By the Greater China region, we mean China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, and we count them together as if they were one big contiguous market.

World leader Samsung has to settle for a share of only 3.2%, which puts it at the bottom of the list. Between Apple and Samsung is Huawei with 8% share and Meizu with 7%.
