Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners - Everything you need to know

The spread of robot vacuum cleaners has taken off in the last 3 years. The modernisation of technology (and with it improvements in efficiency) has been accompanied by an affordable price. A Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners Available in Hungary for 2 years. The Mi and Roborock robotic vacuum cleaners have a leading global position in terms of sales. In Hungary, tens of thousands of households are already using one of these models, and more and more people are choosing the Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum cleaner or the Roborock S50/S55 model.
We've tested all the models available and can recommend them to anyone considering a purchase, depending on their needs.

Robot vacuum cleaner models

Mi (MiJia) robot vacuum cleaner

Xiaomi's dedicated robotic vacuum cleaner is also manufactured by Roborock, and the wear parts are compatible with the manufacturer's own-brand models.
In addition to adequate suction power, laser (LDS) navigation and SLAM algorithm help you navigate with precision.Its 1.5cm threshold climbing ability is the lowest in the range, and it is not suitable for wet mopping. In the Mi Home app, it can create a virtual map, on which you can select the room you want to vacuum or a specific area. Automation is possible and the position of the vacuum cleaner can be monitored remotely. This model is the oldest robotic vacuum cleaner in the ecosystem, and its successor is only available in China.

The Mi Robotic vacuum cleaner for larger (150-250m²) are also recommended for apartments.

Roborock S5

The S5 is officially available in 2 international colours (the white S50 and the black S55), while the S51 rose gold colour only works from a Chinese server.

The S5 is the first wiper model from the manufacturer, with an increased port capacity, higher suction power, 2cm threshold climbing capability, a separate water tank and a mop that can be attached to it. It also has more advanced sensors and hardware, and thus more software options. It also uses an LDS (lidar) system for navigation, which means a highly precise laser navigation.
Useful software feature of the "virtual wall", which allows you to create "no go" zones for a bar on the map, i.e. you can block e.g. carpets, fragile flooring, children's toys from the vacuum cleaner. A new feature (which will be phased in for LDS models from the end of November 2019) is the ability to save the map by level with cards. This can be useful for multi-storey houses, as the robot vacuum cleaner can now be used on different levels. We are testing this feature and will update this article with more information.
The Roborock S5 in both colours is very popular in our country, and according to our information, it sells better than the Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum cleaner, despite its higher price.

The Roborock S5 robot vacuum cleaner for larger (150-250m²) are also recommended for apartments. It is also suitable for scrubbing hard floors.

Xiaowa (Lite) C10

Roborock tried its luck with a sub-brand in 2018, which it launched under the name Xiaowa. The first model (the C10 , Youth Edition, or Lite) was available at a much lower price than the Mi robot vacuum cleaner. They no longer used lasers for orientation, but infra-sensors and a dual gyroscope. And the software used a "self-learning" adaptive algorithm. This solution lagged behind its laser counterparts in terms of both accuracy and speed, and cleaning took much longer. Moreover, the battery capacity is half that of the Xiaomi and Roborock models. On the plus side, it has the largest capacity port. The threshold climbing here is also 2 cm, you can also find the carpet mode, spot cleaning. This model does not produce a map.
The Xiaowa C10 was on sale until October 2019.
The Xiaowa C10 is recommended for smaller homes.

Xiaowa E2 (E20)

What distinguishes it most from the C10 is the higher suction power and the wiping function. This model was produced in 3 colours, we mostly found white in the webshop range (and was only sold in white in our country). Navigation was slightly more precise thanks to the 6-axis gyroscope, but the cleaning speed and battery capacity were the same as the C10.
It was also discontinued in October 2019.

Xiaowa E2 is recommended for small and medium sized homes.

Xiaowa E3 (E30)

This model was the most powerful of the trio. It had the same heart rate and battery capacity as the Roborock S5, but still used the same navigation solution as the E2. Unlocking is also a given here.
The Xiaowa E3 was not officially available in our country, in Europe it is available mainly through Amazon.
Priced above the Mi robot vacuum cleaner, it is still on sale but is expected to be completed this year.

Roborock S6

Chronologically, the S6 is the latest model to be released, months behind the Chinese T6. Its supply is currently being held up by production difficulties.
The S6 has a modified main and side brush, which makes vacuuming even more efficient. The modified air duct and the soundproofing of the suction motor mean that the operating noise is noticeably reduced and less disturbing during operation (when you're at home). The stronger hardware means faster cleaning (smarter area calculation). New software features include a selective cleaning function and a card floor mode. On the finished map, we can name rooms separately and schedule cleaning separately. We will test the "floor" mode available in Mi Home and its card sorting and report back to you.

The Roborock S6 is available in white and black, currently with a barrier. Recommended for larger apartments and family houses.

Roborock S5 Max

It's got the power of the S6 with a slightly smaller port, but twice the water tank. Most recommended for large apartments, where there are many hard floors and frequent mopping is recommended. Another interesting feature is that this is the first Roborock vacuum cleaner that can also do a no-mop zone in addition to the no-go zone, which means you can disable areas (e.g. carpet) where you don't want to mop.
The new Xiaomi Roborock S5 Max is therefore able to recognize rooms separately, with the ability to set the suction strength, the amount of water used for mopping, the start of cleaning, and no-go, no-mop zones. Mops are only washable and can be changed, they are not compatible with the disposable mop used with the S6.
The S5 Max will be launched in January 2020, first in the xiaomishop.hu online store.
