Strategy Analytics, who bring us global shipping news every quarter, have now revealed that Apple had the highest worldwide sales of wearables in the first quarter of 2017. Not only does this mean that they are currently number one in the market, but they have managed to outsell Xiaomi and Fitbit.
While Apple managed to ship 2.2 million units in the first quarter of last year alone, it has managed to surpass that with 3.5 million units shipped this year. For those who are not aware of the numbers, this represents an increase of 59% in units shipped compared to the last quarter of last year and puts them in first place for units shipped this year.
Close behind is Xiaomi, which shipped a total of 3.4 million units in the first quarter of 2017. Although only 0.1 million units behind Apple, units shipped were down by 10.5% compared to the first quarter of last year, with 3.9 million units shipped worldwide. It is worth noting that Xiaomi's gadgets are much cheaper, resulting in a small profit.
Fitbit, however, has fallen from last year's first place to third, with the biggest drop coming from a huge drop in shipments. While a good 4.5 million units shipped last year, only 2.9 million units were sold in 2017, a drop of 36% from last year.
