Exactly one week ago I wrote it, that a new version of the Redmi Note 8 will be released under the name Redmi Note 8 2021, I ended my article with "So, what's the point of all this? I don't know, if you do, I'm waiting for the answers!"

Xiaomi has not only confirmed the arrival of the Redmi Note 8 2021, but also explained why this is necessary.

The Redmi Note 8 series has been so successful worldwide that more than 25 million units have been sold. That's a huge number, by the way - every person in Australia could have had a copy. The point is, to celebrate this landmark number, they're re-releasing the Redmi Note 8.

So the reason is simple, the Redmi Note 8 series did too well for the Redmi Note series, which I assume the Redmi Note 9 series couldn't beat (Redmi Note 10 remains to be seen), so they decided to take the Redmi Note 8 instead of a Redmi Note 10, revamp it a bit and re-release it.

I have my doubts about whether this will work. On the one hand, because the Redmi Note 8, even if it has the 2021 marker after it, is already a 2-year-old series, and on the other hand, the original device had a Snapdragon 665, and the new one has a MediaTek Helio G85. Before the release of the Dimensity series, when I was choosing a phone for myself, I would have skipped any model equipped with MediaTek without a word, whereas now I would strongly reconsider. I'm probably not alone in this, but I think it will take time for MediaTek to gain popularity even among sceptical users.

I will be curious to see if the device will be able to deliver the expected level!
