This is not the first time this week that services from big names have been down or partially down, with Slack, Hulu and Imgur among the names affected.

The disadvantage of centralisation is that it is easy to pull the rug out from under the feet of the dependents: this is what has happened. A power outage in Amazon's data centre made the above services and others unavailable, Amazon Platforms using Web Services (AWS).

This is not the first time this week that Cloudflare has also experienced outages recently.

Not the first, and not the last: there will be outages

Egyre inkább a felhőbe költöznek a szolgáltatók.

Of course, this solution has its advantages. For example, there is no need to maintain a dedicated server management team, and the infrastructure is more scalable and easier to manage.

However, if there is a glitch at Amazon or, to name but a few, Google or Microsoft, half the internet could go down, with serious risks. Experience shows that, from time to time, there are glitches.

What we can conclude from this is that if one of your favourite services doesn't work and another doesn't work, it's possible that the big guys' devices are at fault.

Illetve talán, hogy nem jó az, ha mindent felteszünk egy lapra – vagy, egy felhőbe.
