The Redmi 12 has mysteriously arrived in our country, first the software and then the hardware. It's not a bad little machine, with a good camera, big screen and battery, and a low price. But it's only known for 4G mobile network and now it's being improved on 1 August in India with the Redmi 12 5G.
This morning, Redmi India X (formerly Twitter) announced the launch time of the phone, with a small animation.
The wait is over, #XiaomiFans! Witness the global debut of #Redmi12 5G in India on 1st August 23'!

We don't know much about it, except that it will be released on 1 August 2023 and will be able to handle 5G mobile networks. The pictures show the design of the phone, with a flat screen and back, a SIM tray on the side and a triple camera. Almost iPhone-like, but only in appearance.
Specification
The Redmi 12 5G from the teaser page we now know more about the new phone. The first thing to note is that the Redmi 12 will get a 5G Flagship design.
It really does look like an expensive phone when served like this. But there's nothing wrong with that, because the materials and assembly aren't as different as they used to be. Although it's not yet known what the back is made of, plastic or glass, but it's certainly attractive.
You get the largest screen ever seen on a Redmi (plain, not Note). It's rumoured to have a 6.79″ diagonal screen with FHD+ (2460×1080) resolution.
The official announcement also revealed the largest camera, which has a resolution of 50 MP with built-in movie effects. But compared to the Redmi 12, there won't be three cameras, just two. The second one will be a 2 MP macro and the third "lens" will only have the flash. On the front, the resolution has been reduced from 8 MP to 5 MP for selfies.
But if it's going to be weaker in the camera, it needs to be improved elsewhere. 5G mobile network capability also brings better performance. The Redmi 12 5G will most likely use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor. It's much more powerful than the 4G version's MTK Helio G88. A minimum double performance boost will please everyone and compensate for small shortcomings.
Along with the processor, you also get much more memory and storage. Specifically, this has been doubled, as has the computing capacity. What's more, the SD 4 Gen 2 backing is now sufficient to create virtual memory, which can be increased to 16 GB. That should be enough for everything! But 256 GB is fixed and cannot be expanded with a microSD card.
The battery capacity hasn't changed, it's still the same old 5,000 mAh with 18 W fast charge and 22.5 W fast charger in the box.
Summary
The official info ends here, although I have slipped some rumours in between the lines. These are probably not rumours, as the Redmi 12 5G will be a globalised version of the Chinese Redmi Note 12R. And we know that phone by heart, with all its features and design elements. But don't take it as a handout, because they might change something during the long voyage and that's not exactly what we'll get.
But Redmi India and the official posters show a global launch, so the phone will be unveiled in India, but will also be available in Europe. We hear some things from Indian bloggers about how much the phone will cost, at launch. Theoretically, it will cost INR 13,999, which is equivalent to €154 in Europe and €58,750 at home. But of course it won't be that much, because there's always some extra cost. In Hungary it will probably be between 70-80.000 ft, which is still a pretty good price for this iron.
