End of last month published our article about Xiaomi's brutal 200W wired and 120W wireless charging technology, christened Hyper Charge. The video is so spectacular that it has its place in this article.

At the end of the article, the question appears, "But then there are some questions, how long does it take to kill the battery of the phone?" Xiaomi has answered questions about the new technology by responding to this one. The company estimates that the battery loses 20% of capacity after 800 cycles. The test device Mi 11 Pro originally has a 5000 mAh battery. If we assume that the device gets 1.0 charge cycles every day, this 20% degradation will happen in roughly 2 years.

Xiaomi added that the Chinese authorities allow a maximum degradation of 40% after 400 charge cycles, which the company far exceeds. The main cause of degradation is high thermal efficiency. 10 minutes of 200W charging is equivalent to 5 hours of 5W charging.

The question is, is it worth it? Sometimes it is. If someone forgets to plug in their phone on the 10% in the evening and wakes up late in the morning, a 15-20 minute charge may not last the day. In such cases, a very fast charge is useful, but in the vast majority of cases it is not.

The solution, I think, would be to have an adjustable charging speed on the charger, and the company would tell you that faster charging degrades the battery more. Of course this won't happen, but it's a good idea. :D
