Xiaomi is primarily known for its smartphones, and has seen steady growth in this area over the past year. Regular readers will be familiar with the other Xiaomi Smart Home products, and many people have a Mi robot vacuum cleaner, or an air purifier. Xiaomi's growth has also been helped by its sub-brands, such as Huami, Mijia, ZMI, XiaoYi, etc. Each brand specialises in specific categories. While Huami has a prominent position in the global market for wearable fitness devices (Mi Band, Mi Band 2...), Mijia has also been able to significantly increase its sales thanks to its growing number of smart home products. It was revealed today that the number of Mijia air purifiers sold in 2017 exceeded 3 million units. This is well above the number sold in 2016.

Where and why is the Xiaomi air purifier popular?

Air purifiers are particularly popular in China and India. They effectively filter out harmful pollutants from the polluted air of large cities, contributing to cleaner air in homes and apartments. By filtering out various air pollutants (usually PM2.5, dust, pollen, odours, bacteria, allergens, etc.), they also provide a more livable environment for families with young children and the elderly.

The manufacturer introduced several new models last year (Air Purifier Pro, Air Purifier 2, Air Purifier 2S, and the latest, the Xiaomi Air Purifier Max), something with a solution for cars has also come forward. This gives them a wide range of products to cover the market, from small rooms to larger apartments. The most powerful, the Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier Max 1000 m3/h CADR-has.

Statistics

According to an official statement, it sold more than 3 million air purifiers in 2017, compared to just 2 million in 2016. With such a good performance, the manufacturer has proven that it can be a leader not only in the smartphone market, but also in the smart home market. In fact, it has sold more than 1.6 million air purification filters.

Although the spokesperson did not elaborate, it is known that there has been a significant increase in other household appliances (such as robot vacuum cleaners, kettles, rice cookers...).

In 2018, Xiaomi will dedicate significant resources to the development of artificial intelligence, which will also be integrated into home appliances. So we can expect to see new devices announced as early as spring. We'll be sure to report on it.
