YouTube is introducing a new rule that will stop users who deny climate change from earning revenue on the site.

The Google-owned video-sharing platform announced on Thursday that it will remove advertisements from the content of climate change deniers, depriving uploaders of the opportunity to make money. A Regulation for those for content which hoax the warming of the Earth's climate and deny the human causes of climate change.

The new rules, which will come into force in November, do not cover the blocking of climate change denial content, so videos with such views can still be displayed on the site, but creators cannot make money from them. Google has decided to introduce the new rules in the interests of its business, as it says that advertisers do not want to advertise alongside content that contradicts scientific facts. To avoid mistakes, the company is using algorithms and human labour to distinguish between videos that deny climate change and those that debate the issue, which are not subject to restrictions on the site. Google has also consulted UN experts in making this decision.

The search giant has already adopted similar advertising rules in the past, for example, in March 2020, in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, it decided not to allow advertising on sites that mention threats to human life (e.g. terrorist attacks, epidemics).
