The Xiaomi Mi 8, launched in May 2018, went on sale in June. This was followed by the Mi 8 SE and Mi 8 Pro, of which there were no EEA versions at the time, only Global and Russian.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 had the hardware of its time. Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, 12 MP main and secondary cameras, 20 MP selfie camera and a hefty screen size. At the time it was still running Android 8.1 Oreo, the latest base with MIUI 9. It has since received the MIUI 12 update, based on Android 10.
Today, Zhang Guoquan, Director of Xiaomi's System Software Department, revealed during a chat with netizens that the Xiaomi Mi 8 will receive the MIUI 12.5 update. More precisely, it is already done and waiting for release. Since the hardware of the regular 8 differs in minor details from the Pro version, it will probably get it soon after. The SE is still in question, as it only has the SD710, so that question remains unanswered.
Note that for Chinese phones, this is for the Chinese MIUI 12.5 update. The global version is weeks away. If they do... we'll see.
