Last year, Google announced its earthquake detection and forecasting system, which is currently only used as a sensor in countries around the world. It sends no forecasts or alerts, except for California.

Xiaomi has patented something similar. They also rely on mobile devices, but whether they use a special sensor is unknown.

But... how?

The way it works is relatively simple: mobile devices take the measurements and send them to a central server where they are processed. They can then be used to send an alert about an earthquake that is about to occur. Artificial intelligence can even be used to send timely alerts about events that have not yet started.

In practice, this would mean that the central system would determine the situation from the measurements of the Xiaomi devices and warn you before the earthquake reaches the area.

This is not always effective, of course, as tremors spread relatively quickly and there may not be time to take precautions other than checking the message. Of course, if you are about to get into an elevator and the notification arrives at that moment, it can be really useful to help you make a decision in the moment.

If this solution with smartwatch, or perhaps other warning sounds, would certainly have a positive effect.

But what is particularly interesting are the forecasts. If we can predict the situation well in advance of the event, precautions can be taken to reduce the number of victims and the material damage caused by these disasters.

Incidentally, this patent could also mean that Xiaomi could use such sensors in its various smart home devices, which is not a disadvantage for an air purifier, but an advantage.

We look forward to hearing more, but in the meantime read how he wanted to resolve this a Google.
