The idea of eSIM technology was first mooted in 2010, but it took up to 6 years to come to fruition. The first such device was the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch, and a year later Apple successfully implemented it in the Apple Watch Series 3. Xiaomi only came out with its first such device in 2019, the Chinese version of the Xiaomi Watch. But now the first global Xiaomi phone capable of using eSIM has arrived.
The Xiaomi 12T Pro did not make much mention of the fact that this is the first phone in the global market to be able to use eSIM. Interestingly enough, no one noticed or thought it was important.
What is eSIM?
An eSIM is a separate chip, a virtual SIM card, which is built into the motherboard of a mobile phone or smartwatch. It replaces the classic plastic SIM card, so you no longer need to insert it in the right slot. But don't worry, you won't lose the ability to change your handset or number. You can simply download your profile to the chip in your phone or other device, or remove it.
Which operator can you use to request eSIM?
Currently, Xiaomi has nominated two service providers in our country. These are Magyar Telekom and Vodafone. Xiaomi 12T Pro, as an eSIM-enabled phone, Vodafone does not yet have one. It will probably be replaced in time.
