New Xiaomi smart U-shutter with fingerprint reader

You'd think there was nothing new, but we're always surprised by the new Xiaomi gadgets. And that's exactly the case now, it may not be a niche device, but it's still useful enough for the target audience to have a smart u-box.

Xiaomi's new smart u-lock is manufactured by the Chinese company Areox, which provides protection against forced entry in a full zinc alloy frame with a stainless steel locking mechanism. The locking mechanism is fully dust and waterproof, as is the built-in fingerprint reader. The biometric reader is lightning fast, opening the lock in 0.5 seconds and can memorise multiple fingers.

The smart u-lock is not only for locking bicycles and motorbikes, but also doors and other devices. Its big advantage over key locks is that it can be easily opened with one hand. It is yet to be revealed whether it can be operated with a built-in battery or with replaceable batteries, and the product is yet to be released, as it will only be available in China from 10am tomorrow at a price of 199 Yuan (~8,465 Ft).
