Google announced a few days ago that Google Meet has a new feature that can essentially turn your video conferencing service into an interpreter.

Not only in the business world, but also in other areas of life, robotic interpreters that can mediate between parties in real time can be of enormous help. The company Notify Google Meet will also be enriched with this feature, and they have already started testing live translation, although not widely yet.

The new Feature so far only works for words pronounced in English and can only translate into a few languages: French, Spanish, German and Portuguese. So it's still very early days, and the fact that it's currently only available to Google Workspace subscribers doesn't help.

According to the company, the new feature is designed to make communication smoother, creating an even more global, inclusive and efficient environment than before. They say the new development will be particularly useful in areas where language barriers have made collaboration difficult.

Google has not yet announced when the interpreter feature will be available to the general public, nor when and in which languages the repertoire will be expanded.
