Robotic vacuum cleaners are slowly developing into a separate business, which can be very useful in a household, with some maintenance. The Roborock S5 MAX is the first vacuum cleaner we'll be presenting in this article and video, and we'll help you decide whether it's worth choosing from the current range. Further articles and videos will be about the usage, both the physical and the software side, but of course I won't leave out the negatives and disadvantages!

In the current Xiaomi ecosystem offering, the Roborock S5 Max is at the top end of the range, both in terms of its power and price. The S6, while it may look newer, is actually an earlier model, and it is no more capable than the S5 Max, but more expensive and harder to get.
Its current rival is the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop-Pro "Hacker King" robotic vacuum cleaner, which is currently being tested, with video footage to follow. Although the Mop Pro is a good alternative to the S5 series, it is not up to the level of the S5 Max, especially in terms of functionality.
Vacuum cleaning
Let's see how it vacuums different surfaces and how effectively it sucks up the things that don't belong:
Like all robotic vacuum cleaners, be it Xiaomi (MiJia), Roborock, Samsung, or iRobot, it only cleans where the "priests dancing". Not every home is suitable for robot vacuum cleaning, you need a well-ventilated space, order and few (high) thresholds. Before cleaning, fragile objects should be packed away, with a large no-go zone or physically protected. In time, by the time I start, I'd be done with a great hand vacuum, and I'd be done everywhere IS (corners, behind sofas, edge of trim, etc.)! But what it's designed to do, it does with almost 100% efficiency! It saves time, especially in larger homes. There's a reason why the S5 Max is recommended for cleaning large families, large houses with pets - lots of fur - children, and carpets of the thinner kind.

The S5 MAX excels at mopping up, because unlike its predecessors - where gravity helped water to flow onto the mop - it uses a tiny water pump to dispense water, so you can control the amount of water. Entered into the app, we decide whether to just wipe the surface with a thin layer of water or to soak it properly with a generous amount of water. For stubborn stains, it's worth reapplying or, in Spot mode, wiping the area.
Upgrade
All that glitters is not gold, so the saying goes, and this is true for robot vacuum cleaners in general. In this case, I would like to share with you some negative moments I have experienced while using the S5 MAX. The new 5-branch silicone brush is a goalpost that doesn't always hold up or serve the purpose it was intended for.
This new solution is ideal for laminate floors, high-gloss parquet floors, where there are no gaps and no carpet.
But this problem can be solved with a simple swap - just get the former S50 series 3-branch plastic bristle brush and everything is as it should be.
You can add this separately - by clicking here - buy, if justified. Neither the manufacturer nor the distributor can be obliged to make a replacement, as stated in the Technical Information.
With this upgrade, it's even more perfect next to the wall, not to mention the carpet and grout under the furniture, which the silicone just caressed.
Software
The software of the vacuum cleaner, even if it is in English (which will be improved soon), is very easy to use and understand. It takes a little English to operate the vacuum cleaner, but even that little can be learned quickly. Perhaps some people's first difficulty might be with pairing (on iOS, the WiFi Hotspot is the solution, which the vacuum creates and then we can pair it with our WiFI password), which is perhaps a common fault of "quality" service providers or cheap routers. Just for interest, I have a Xiaomi Mi Router 3G at home and so far all smart products have worked almost instantly with it, whatever the region. So don't be afraid to get a good router, if you're into smart stuff...
Black soup
Perhaps the problems I encountered during use could be attributed not only to the S5 MAX, but also to un bloc for all:
- Long seconds are needed to detect the carpet when it has already moved 20-30 centimetres on the carpet. The problem is greater if, for example, you have mopped and not designated the carpet as a NO-MOP zone. It will go up and when it detects it, it will try to crawl off the carpet, which has a wet surface to prevent it. Funny scene.
- Secondly, if you accidentally leave something in the docking room door and want to go back after cleaning, you can't. Well, that's okay, but he tries to jump over, tunnel in from the right, left, top, bottom. Or, as in my case, he can simply teleport it from the bathroom. :mrgreen: And then he looked around the kitchen to see if he could find a stool, or I don't know why. I asked him a few times, "Can't you find your way home, my soul?", but he defiantly kept going, and after 10 minutes of trying, gave up.
- The new silicone side brush, although it has 5 branches and is of the fudeNASA type, just spins like a cuckoo clock and barely does its job of directing everything towards the main brush. He tries hard, but it's no use. It's soft, so it slips over the grout between the tiles, not to mention the long-stemmed carpets, where it gets stuck like Pistike in algebra. Solution: replace it with the older 3-branch bristle brush!
- The mop is 2.5 cm deeper than the edge of the vacuum cleaner, leaving at least 3 cm of strip next to the wall. The priests don't dance there either.
- Even with MAX suction power, it can't suck up everything, even if a brush is used to agitate it first. And not just on carpets, but also on tiles. Not to mention that the side brush doesn't always sweep away dirt, seeds, pebbles, etc. in the direction of the main brush, but simply pushes it away and leaves it there. The solution to this is spot cleaning and regular cleaning, so you don't accumulate so much dirt that you need an industrial tool.
General maintenance
The S5 MAX, like all vacuum cleaners, requires maintenance, although there is no specific operation for it, but if it does, we will of course do it in a separate video.

One thing's for sure, the S5 Max isn't flawless, but it's by far the best choice in the field.
