Redmi, since its separation from Xiaomi, has achieved great results, not only in its home country China, but also in the global market. Although they haven't yet kicked the ball in the high-end category, but what goes around comes around.

According to Canalys, in 2019, the Redmi Note 7 was ranked 6th globally, in the overall market. Last year, more than 16.4 million units were sold, making the parent company the best Chinese brand in the world.

But in the last quarter of the year, the company pulled ahead and put two of its phones on the global top 10 list. For the last three months of 2019, its best-selling phones were the Redmi Note 8, which again landed in sixth place, and then the Redmi Note 8 Pro, which took the top spot, beating Samsung, but it could take years to beat Apple.

Lu Weibing also explained in his Weibo post their current market situation, which is a bit worrying, as the online market has dropped by 50% and the off-line by 70-80% due to the virus restrictions. So the Q1 numbers will be disappointing for Chinese manufacturers, including Xiaomi.
