It was recently revealed that Xiaomi will announce MIUI 12 on 27 April 2020. Not only will the fresh UI be unveiled at the event, but also the "smallest" member of the Mi 10 model family, which will be marketed in China as the "Mi 10 Youth Edition". This model will be launched internationally as Mi 10 Lite in May. In parallel, information has also emerged about an upcoming Redmi Pad tablet, which, according to the illustrations/posters, is equipped with a 5G-capable SD765G processor, 90Hz display, 30W fast charging support. All this at a very affordable price. So is it all a big hoax, or can we really get ready to buy it?

The Xiaomi Redmi Pad information about the new tablet is actively covered by almost all the major tech sites abroad (GSMArena, gsmManiac, Gizmochina, Gizchina, Playfuldroid, 911mobiles, Xiaomitoday...), and in our country as well.

The poster itself, however, looks too suspicious, so let's take a closer look:

Redmi Pad - True or False?

Let's look at the whole chain of leaks.

First, the Techindeep published an article "Arrival of the Redmi Pad 5G! Launched on 27 April.

The watermarked poster is then published by the Turkish user BUGREVEALINGBME (low rating + 4 questionable posts) on the Slashleaks site, and the news tsunami is set off... (By the way, this user had previously published an absolutely fake Mi MIX 4 on the same site.)

Various publications are starting to publish the new Xiaomi Redmi Pad news. Subsequently, the already popular Chinese media (Sina, CNMO, IThome) joined in to spread the news.

Does the Redmi Pad 5G tablet really exist?

The fact that Xiaomi is working on a new tablet has been rumoured since March. Then, this image was published on Weibo, which published speculations about the new tablet, highlighting the 8.920mAh battery capacity (top right). That's even more than the battery of the last officially released Mi Pad 4 Plus tablet (8,620mAh).

After that, Lou Weibing made some hints in his comment on Weibo posts, which fans interpreted as a probability that Redmi is indeed working on its own tablet. It is expected that the Redmi Pad would be introduced instead of the Mi Pad 5.

Why is the poster fake?

From a visual point of view, and also from a hardware point of view, the tablet would be impressive, no doubt every Xiaomi fan would agree: It has an 8-inch screen with a slim bezel and 90Hz refresh rate, four speakers, two colour options (black or white), a 48-megapixel AI camera and a 30W rechargeable battery.

Most importantly, it's powered by a Snapdragon 765G processor.

All for a modest 94.000 HUF (1999 yuan). Excellent price, isn't it? Are you already thinking about when and where to buy it? Sure... But all that glitters is not gold... don't fall for it!

Think about the following question: Why the Redmi Pad could - in theory - be unveiled on 27 April at the Mi 10 Youth Edition and MIUI 12?

Conclusion:

  1.  The Chinese Mi 10 Youth Edition (globally known as Mi 10 Lite) is also Snapdragon 765G-uses.

  2.  The poster shows that on the Redmi Pad tablet, the MIUI for Pad operating system is running. Could Xiaomi follow (copy) the iPad and launch its own operating system for tablets? Then there will be the Introducing MIUI 12. In theory, these products should be presented on the same day.

  3.  Redmi is now actively working to introduce affordable 5G devices.

Take a good look at the poster itself, but only the original, not the Techindeep half at low resolution:

Attentive users can immediately spot fonts that the company never uses. And the tablet itself looks odd (not very believable). And with hardware like that and a 90Hz display, a 4800mAh battery?

Findings

The rumour has never been confirmed by an official source, and no leaks have been reported before. In addition, the alleged device has not been certified in China (no model is in the databases of the Ministry of Communications and Information), without which it would be impossible to launch any technical product on the market.

Currently this post has been completely removed from the Slashleaks site. And not because it's some kind of secret leak of the Redmi Pad, Xiaomi management has asked to remove the poster.

So the Redmi Pad 5G tablet is nothing but a fake!
