We already know a lot about the Xiaomi 12 series, but only one thing about Redmi's new top-of-the-range phone. The Redmi K50 series will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor. But the rough part is that, according to some tests, the D9000 is a better processor than the SD8 Gen 1. Will the Redmi K50 be better than the Xiaomi 12????

Redmi K50 MediaTek Dimensity 9000

Redmi announced on Weibo this morning that the new MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC will be included in the Redmi K50 series. It'll probably be in the Pro version, the regular one will be a smaller one, perhaps using the D1200. But why did I write that the D9000 is better than the SD8 Gen 1? Let's see what it does and how it's better.

CPU

The MediTek Dimensity 9000 is built on the same 4nm technology as the SD8, so they are incredibly close in performance, but the D9000 is still slightly better. Its clock speed is 50 MHz higher, which wouldn't make a difference then.

Almost the same 8 cores are in both SoCs, but in the D9000 the main core is clocked slightly higher, but it's the three cores of the Cortex-A710 that really make the difference, which is much faster than the X2.

AnTuTu

It's not much bigger than the D9000, but still, and it's enough to make MediaTek claim that theirs is bigger. Although the full test hasn't been released yet, the end result is what matters. For them... and the AnTuTu warriors.

Performance

D9000 Performance

Based on the other tests as well, the overall conclusion is that the D9000 is a better processor than the SD8 Gen 1. While it's a nice sight for gamers to see the SD8 Gen 1 perform 7 points better, the D9000 is better for average use, even by 8 points. In battery management, of course, the higher clock speeds consume more power, but overall it's still better, with the Nanoreview based on a survey of the site.

So it's only the full iron and software that will prevent the assumption that the Redmi K50 Pro will be better than the Xiaomi 12 Pro. But that's just the SoC, there's a lot more that could change that. E.g. a Redmi can never be more expensive than a Xiaomi phone, or even better, that would be embarrassing. But we'll see! The Xiaomi 12 series will be launched on 28 December, the Redmi K50 will probably not be launched until 2022. We are curious to see!
