As the last few days have shown from rumours we learned that Xiaomi will introduce a new "R" series. The Xiaomi R1 will be the first of the new series, and two images of what is likely to be the new phone have recently surfaced online.

True, the pictures show the phone in a sturdy silicone case, but you can clearly see that it's a full-screen phone. The jack Mi earpiece suggests that it's not a classic Mi series, maybe not a Mi at all, but the R is the full-screen version of the Redmi series.

Another significant difference is that the USB connector is MicroUSB only, not USB-C, which would suggest the Mi series, which is located between the speaker and microphone at the bottom.

There may also be no Redmi Note 5 Plus or similar, but R1 will be, and the Note 5 series may come with classic buttons and not full screen. We can expect its release later this year to take the cheap full-screen market podium from Oppo and Vivo in China.

Don't be fooled by the pictures! They are taken in the factory, on the assembly line, during internal tests and the like, not in the hands of young people in everyday life, and not in a ready-made 1$ silicone case. That doesn't make it clear that the phone is a Xiaomi, because there's a Xiaomi earpiece hanging out of it...
