Redmi Smart TV X 2022 coming on 20 October

Xiaomi has announced on its official Weibo page that later this month, on the 22nd, the Redmi Smart TV X 2022 series.

According to Zhang Feng, Partner, Senior Vice President and Chairman of the Xiaomi Group Procurement Committee, the Redmi TV (I mean, it's so damn good that they can't develop anything on it :D) He also asked "after MEMC and metal frame, what breakthroughs would you like to see in Redmi Smart TV X 2022?"

Why is this series special?

The Redmi Smart TV X series was officially launched in May 2020. The TV features a metal frame and adopts a minimalist, full-screen design. The screen-to-body ratio reaches 97%, giving the impression that the TV is a single display without a bezel. Initially, there was only a 55-inch version. The price of this version was 2299 yuan (111,000 forints). Later, however, a 65-inch version was also sold for 3299 yuan (160 thousand forints). Presumably, these two sizes will also be included in the new series.

What is the MEMC that Feng highlighted?

It literally means: motion estimation, motion compensation. It's a new technology. But it is fast becoming very popular for a number of reasons. Conventional TVs have a hard time capturing fast-moving objects in high detail because of the low video frame rate. MEMC allows additional frames to be artificially created for movies and videos. For example, if a movie is delivered at 30 frames per second, it can be viewed at 60 or even 120 frames per second.

What can we expect from the 2022 series?

Coming back to the upcoming Redmi Smart TV X 2022, it will be aimed at young buyers, like its predecessor, so the price shouldn't go down. The screen resolution and hardware are not expected to regress from the previous generation, it would be strange. Minor upgrades can be expected, say RAM or storage expansion, but the main question is whether the new TVs will get new features such as the MEMC mentioned above. Good question, a few days and all will be revealed.
