Smart alarm clock for a more comfortable life

While it used to be a big deal when the first smartphones and smart TVs appeared, we are now seeing smart features pop up in almost every product line in some way. The alarm clock has not escaped this fate, and the Xiaomi was one of the first companies to offer this type of smart with machines took to the stage.

And time has proven the Chinese company right, as more and more people are following suit and signing up with smart alarm clocks. There is obviously a receptiveness to this from the end-user side, otherwise it would obviously not be worth the money and effort to develop and assemble them. But what do these gadgets do? What can they offer more? This is a topic we have explored a little. 

Wake me up

Let's start with the basics: the main function is still the same, i.e. we're still talking about a clock that can display the exact time, programmable alarms and wake-up calls, and a snooze function is not missing on these models. 

Colour LCD screen

But that's as far as the similarity goes, as most of these devices have a relatively large colour LED LCD display with a relatively high resolution. The Xiaomi EU QBH4191GL, for example, has a 4-inch touch-sensitive screen with 800 x 480 pixels.

This display allows the user to choose between pre-programmed dials, so they can tailor the look to their own taste.

Built-in speaker

Modern smart alarm clocks naturally have an integrated sound system.  But it's not just a wake-up call, you can also listen to music with the product. It can also be wirelessly connected via Bluetooth or WiFi to receive audio content. So you can start YouTube on your phone, but it will play from the watch. 

Available applications

Some smart alarm clocks are already able to connect to the web via the aforementioned WiFi, allowing you to run various web apps. This means, for example, that they can access the gigantic music libraries of Spotify or Deezer, as well as web radio stations. 

Media player

There are smart alarm clocks that have a media player app installed at the factory. Various content can be delivered to it via a USB port or the local network. So you just plug in a hard drive or thumb drive and you can listen to the music on it. 

Camera image

For example, the Xiaomi product mentioned above can be integrated into a larger smart home system with multiple devices. It can also display the image of the security camera on the aforementioned colour screen. So you can even look at the garage from bed or monitor what's going on in the nursery. 

Voice control

The latest smart alarm clocks already support the use of Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa personal assistant technologies. This also enables voice control, programming or search. This means, for example, that you can tell these models which music track to play and at what volume, which is a very convenient way to do so. 

Price

For what they can do, these products don't cost much. For as little as 10-20 000 forints located at fully viable, user-friendly pieces.
