Google has been dethroned, not Alphabet's search site as the most visited site of the year for the past year.

Google is the world's dominant internet company, with many people knowing and using the keyword-based search engine on a daily basis, and it wins the title of the world's most visited website almost every year. But now the tables are turned: Cloudfare is the reported that TikTok came in first place, as the Chinese-owned video platform ByteDance had more users than Google in 2021.

Of course, Google has no reason to complain either, with the search site coming in second just behind TikTok, while Facebook took the bronze. Apple and Netflix also made the top 5, followed by Amazon, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Twitter.

The video community site at the end of September accessed the one billion mark, which is a big deal, especially considering that in July 2020 there were "only" 696 million active users, not to mention that the Chinese video sharing site has come under heavy political pressure in several countries, including the United States and India, following various security and privacy concerns over the use of the site, which is mainly targeted at young people. The coronavirus outbreak has had a noticeably positive impact on the popularity of the service, with TikTok's traffic increasing significantly during the period of the shutdown.
