Devices based on WiFi 6 are increasingly available and offer a number of tangible benefits.

It's been a quarter of a century since the IEEE first introduced 802.11, also known as WiFi, a wireless data transmission technology that has now conquered the world. The standard continues to evolve and is now at version 6 (802.11ax). This is the technology has already been incorporated into a number of devices, including Xiaomi, which offers devices such as routers that support this technology. In this article, we'll look at how this standard is an improvement on its predecessors and whether it makes sense to buy one.

Generally speaking, WiFi 6 adds features that have previously appeared as extras in some products, or improves on existing features. It's important to note that the extra benefits of WiFi 6 can only be fully exploited with connected devices that support this standard. However, of course WiFi 6 routers are fully compatible with older technologies and support everything up to 802.11.a/b standards.

Speed: WiFi 6 is a clear improvement in data transfer speed, which means that even large files can reach their destination in a very short time. And high-quality audiovisual content, such as 4K HDR online streaming material, can be transmitted without problems. In addition, high data transfer speeds can be very useful when using cloud-based gaming services.

Response time: Also for games, lower response times are crucial, as they allow web-based multiplayer programs to receive image signals and sent commands/image signals to the server faster, which can be crucial in certain encounters.

More tools: The advantage of routers using WiFi 6 technology is that they can serve significantly more devices at the same time and at the same level, which can be very useful for a more complex smart home or smart office ecosystem.

Coverage: One of the most important in wireless data transmission is range. That is, how far each device can carry the signal and the extent to which physical barriers, such as walls or ceilings, limit the propagation of the signal. Well, WiFi 6 is a huge step forward in this respect, as it performs significantly better than previous versions in terms of coverage.

Guest network: WiFi 6 devices support the creation of a guest network by default. That is, if people who don't otherwise live or work there want to use WiFi, they can get access to a subnet with a different password, so they don't have to give away their passcodes.

Security: WiFi 6 supports the latest and most secure WPA3 encryption protocol.

Parental supervision: The router can already filter out what content can reach the connected devices. This means you can block your child from watching adult content on their phone or computer, for example.

Energy saving: Thanks to Target Wake Time technology, the client only wakes the WiFi client when it receives data, otherwise it can remain in sleep mode.

Without disturbance: As part of the standard, a procedure called Spatial Frequency Reuse flags extraneous network packets on the same channel so they do not interfere with the continuous connection to clients.
