Continue reading at a MIUI University series of articles, in which I show different tips and tricks, not only for beginners.

The following feature requires MIUI 12.

Today, quite a few applications have dark mode. This is a really useful feature, especially after sunset, but some people prefer this look during the day. And for phones with AMOLED displays, using dark mode can also result in longer battery life.

Gmail, Messenger, Telegram, Play Store already have dark mode, some of these will automatically switch to Android 10 and above, despite the system dark mode still needing to be set per app. (This is because the system dark mode was already included in the MIUI 10 beta, but was only included in the 10 beta for the major Android versions.)

However, there are a few apps that are still waiting in the wings, Facebook being the first, but some other apps could also benefit from enforcement. This essentially means that white is replaced by black and black is replaced by white, as it makes sense. That said, they won't be perfect, for example, you might see a black and white Facebook photo appear inverted, but luckily the feature is pretty well written so this isn't common.

  1. Within the settings, select Display, then Dark mode.
  2. Here, select "Other applications".
  3. Then find the apps you want to apply it to.
  4. There you go!
