This week, the development of MIUI 11 continued, not too much new was revealed, the Q&A with fans went well. Design director Liu Ming and product manager Gai Rui held a press conference yesterday, where they gave a briefing on the development of MIUI 11 and asked fans what improvements they thought were important to include in the next version of MIUI.

No major changes have been revealed at the moment, and the developers are currently working on a complete redesign of the system, with a unified icon set and an optimized interface. The integration of Android 9's new power-saving mode has already begun in MIUI 10, with the growing number of Xiaomi phones with AMOLED displays. The full system-level dark mode is not yet complete and not all popular Android apps support it yet. Xiaomi hopes that by the time MIUI 11 is released, this will change and all apps will adapt to the power-saving initiative.

In addition, more emphasis is being placed on better battery utilisation, although this would not be pushed so hard if they were not offering trendy ultra-thin phones, but with a small compromise to keep the size at a reasonable, manageable size and the battery capacity at a level that would not require the next feature. To compensate for the low capacity and fast immersion, they've come up with an even more serious power-saving mode that you can customise yourself. By default, the phone will switch to such a mode now, but in MIUI 11 everything will be on/off, starting with texting, calling, notifications, syncing, background apps, internet, services and anything that consumes even a little bit of power but is unnecessary to keep the system running. It will also switch to a monochrome colour palette and minimum brightness, reducing the power consumption of displays to a minimum.

Other improvements include: automatic screenshot deletion after sharing, status bar optimization, global small windows, new information screen schema, etc.We can't provide more details, the developers are working hard on the new system, if we compare it to MIUI 10, we'll have to wait at least 3-4 months for MIUI 11. The first closed beta tests could start as early as May, when we'll have a better look at the system and its features. But if anything else comes out before then, we'll be back!
