Back in January we wrotethat they have started beta testing the Android 11 update of the Mi CC9, or Mi 9 Lite as it is honestly known. Well, they've tested it, fixed bugs, dropped new ones, then fixed those too, and now it looks like we're going to get something soon.

MIUI 12.5 + Android 11

MIUI 12.5 also brings performance, security and of course design changes, while Android 11 also brings greater security, optimizations and new features such as chat heads in chat apps and a media control centre in the notification panel.

When will it arrive?

After the stable Chinese beta, it usually takes 2-3 weeks before the global versions are updated. If you look at the previous updates, the new MIUI will arrive in the spring, or early summer at the latest, and the Mi 9 Lite, the main version of Android, will also arrive.

Last major version update

The Mi 9 Lite was launched in 2019, our test you can read it here. It was running Android 9 and MIUI 10 at the time, and later upgraded to MIUI 11 and then 12. So this means that Android 11 will be the last of the major versions, MIUI 13 may still get an update, but it's doubtful if it will.
