What's not news is that the Xiaomi 14 series will also use Leica optics and software to ensure the quality of the photos. But rumour has it that it will be an all-new one, replacing the Summicron lenses with the better aperture Summilux lens.

Leica uses a series of logos to distinguish its "in-house" lenses, such as Leica's well-known "50 2AA" lens, which uses the "Summicron" logo. The "Apo-Summicron 50 F2 Asph" lens, which uses the "Summicron" logo, emphasises the "quality" of the lens and corresponds to an F2 aperture.

Previously the Xiaomi 12 / 13 series and the Leitz Phone 1 / 2 mobile phones are marked "Summicron" to demonstrate the "quality" of the mobile phone lens. While the Xiaomi series of mobile phones also have a "Vario" prefix, meaning that the lens has a "zoom function".

The Leica "Summilux" mark used on Xiaomi 14 series mobile phones is said to be used primarily for Leica's own F1.4-F1.7 aperture lenses. Thus, more emphasis is placed on the "aperture" of the lens, and the related "Summilux 50 1.4 Asph" lens is also one of the "standard lenses" for Leica's own cameras.

Previously, the same "Summilux" label was used in Huawei's range of mobile phones, and Xiaomi has now switched to Leica's "Summilux" label, which obviously puts more emphasis on the aperture size of the lens of the phone in question.

At the "aperture size" level, Xiaomi has not used Leica "Noctilux" standard. Noctilux", also known as "Night God", is Leica's range of "extreme wide aperture" lenses. The corresponding camera-level lens has an aperture of F0.95-F1.2, with a larger aperture than Summilux.

"Yes, the Xiaomi Mi 14 series will be equipped for the first time with a Leica Summilux lens, a super high brightness aperture and a new super large-bottom main camera. Pictures this time are worth waiting for" - rough translation from Chinese

Our favourite insider Chinese blogger has also confirmed the above that the Xiaomi 14 will use Leica Summilux lenses. This will significantly increase the light transmission of the aperture, resulting in even better quality photos. It promises to be an exciting Xiaomi 14 series, although it's more than likely that this time it won't be about creating the best camera. So it won't take a prominent place in the overall DXOMARK list either, like the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra.
