Last year, Xiaomi set up an independent camera division to develop the camera module and software for Xiaomi phones separately. The cameras on Xiaomi phones were quite good for the price, and in skilled hands, they were excellent creations. But not everyone is good at it, they only get as far as pressing the shutter button and expecting the device to automatically take the best picture. This was never achieved until the advent of artificial intelligence, but it's still not the real thing.

Today Xiaomi CEO announced on Weibo that the camera development team will put even more emphasis on quality and feature richness in 2019. The three distinctive features such as Super Night Mode, 960 FPS slow motion recording and 4K 60 FPS recording have become the holy trinity in 2018. It started with the Mi Mix 3, at its release, in third place on the DxOMark rankings, and then other phones with similar/similar camera modules have been steadily getting these features.

Not only is the focus on the Mi series (Mi 8 Lite), the Redmi brand is also starting to catch up with the top end in terms of camera quality. The Redmi Note 7, released earlier this year, started the line with its 48 MP sensor, which already features Super Night Mode in the first stable MIUI version. It can only shoot slow motion at 120 FPS, 960 FPS is unlikely to be included.

Xiaomi CEO also said that they are investing not only effort, time and money to develop camera modules and software. This year could make not only its best devices more profitable, but also increase its market presence outside China by developing the "affordable" segment.
