MIUI 12 has been available on many phones for 7 months now, although not all phones on the lists so far have received it. But today's announcement comes as a bit of a surprise that a major update will be released before MIUI 13.
The rollout of MIUI 12.5 has already begun, with the Chinese weekly beta roms slowly but surely getting the new features, animations and design. The custom/cooked roms based on it will have the same features as xiaomi.eu and its peers. Weekly beta roms will be suspended from 14 December, so weekly roms won't be coming for a while. The stable updates will not include new features until next year, which will be introduced with the Xiaomi Mi 11 phone.
Main changes:
- Approximate location: MIUI 12.5 better protects your location, giving apps your approximate location rather than your exact location, unless you specifically allow it to do so
- Volume control: new look, extra button for DND mode
- Home animation: new and revised icon and folder animations
- Power off menu: new, slide button, for power off and restart
- Image conversion: convert photos to PDF quickly
- Running apps: Customise the app toggle menu, even MIUI 9 style
- Camera functions: camera functions with clearer buttons to help you choose the right filter, effect
- More serious animations: reworked animations, cleaner and more enjoyable
- Notification interface: new notification interface, Android 11 design
- New fingerprint animations
- Bubble notification support (Android 11)
- Super resolution
- Voice control
- New QR Code interface
- New icon styles
MIUI 12.5 global stable versions will be released in late January, with OTA updates for domestic phones in February, followed by MIUI 13 in May-June.
