In the past few weeks, some news from the East has confirmed that Xiaomi is working hard to create its smart car factory. This morning Lei Jun announced, the company responsible for Xiaomi's automobile production was officially registered as Xiaomi Automobile Co. Ltd.




The industrial and commercial registration of Xiaomi Automobile Co. Ltd. has been completed. The company was established with a registration capital of 10 billion yuan and Xiaomi CEO, founder, chairman and CEO of the Xiaomi Group, will lead the new organisation.

In the five months since the car was announced, Xiaomi's team has conducted a series of user research and industrial chain audits. While intensively promoting the product definition, they carefully selected more than 20,000 CVs and built a team of nearly 300 people. It continues to recruit talented individuals interested in smart electric cars to join the team.

So far he has visited BYD, Great Wall, Wuling and some other well-known car manufacturers. Over the past 75 days, Xiaomi's management has made 85 industry visits, holding in-depth discussions with more than 200 automotive industry veterans.

Motorcomm

Xiaomi is investing in Motorcomm, a key communications chip maker for cars. This marks another investment by the Chinese tech giant in car-related companies. For those of you who don't know, Motorcomm, is involved in research and development of core communication chips for vehicles. The company was founded back in 2017 and its scope of activities includes technology development, industrial automation, automotive, consulting and other technical services.

In a recent interview, Xiaomi President Wang Xiang stated that the company will start with a thorough research and development of the key enabling technology for smart electric cars. In other words, this investment could be very important, as the basic communication chips in vehicles are an important aspect, especially for smart cars.




Deepmotion

Xiaomi is planning to buy Deepmotion, a startup based on autonomous driving technology. The acquisition will be worth US$77.4 million as the company prepares to enter the electric vehicle market.
