The first flagship of Xiaomi this year, the The Mi 9 model range was launched a little early, yesterday. Last year's Mi 8 model update was just under a year (11 months) away. The three-piece range has impressive specs and a beautiful design. It also boasts several 'world first' titles, with the Mi 9 becoming the first series-produced smartphone with 12GB of RAM. True, it only has a few hours' head start on the title, as the Samsung S10 was unveiled the same day, available with this level of memory.
Then the Mi 9 SE became the first smartphone to get the Snapdragon 712 SoC. A DxO tests Mi 9 as the smartphone with the best video capabilities, beating the likes of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro or iPhone XS Max.
Xiaomi has gone all out, packing every available improvement and "innovation" into the phone that is available today. So on the camera front, it's 3rd in the world rankings in photo capabilities, in design I think it's nicer than the Samsung S10 family, and on top of all that, the pricing has been friendly. Following Xiaomi's previous business policy, this time the pencil has not been "caught thick" either, with roughly the same pricing as last year's trio.
It is welcome that the Mi 9 SE has not spared the good camera, the in-display fingerprint sensor, the UFS 2.1 back, or the fast charging, which was unfortunately done in the case of its predecessor, the Mi 8 SE. Although 800MHz is missing from all three models for now based on the specs so far, preliminary rumours suggest that we'll get B20 in the Global variants to be unveiled at MWC, for all three models and all variants.

But experience so far tells me otherwise. Based on the exclusive tests on the video player, the Mi 9 with the CE logo is expected in black and blue in the Global version, and instead of the Transparent Edition, we will get a Mi 9 Pro with a slightly reduced RAM/backup version at some point. And the Mi 9 SE could remain as a domestic Chinese variant. But let's not be right.
If you do, you may not get the B20, but you can get a Hungarian-language rom. For my part, I'm going for a Mi 9 Alita version, but really.

But let's get to the point. Not only does the Mi 9 TE (Alita version) get a transparent back, more memory and storage, but also a better sensor.

Yes, an observant Xiaomi fan can spot the significant difference in the photo.

While the smooth Wed 9 Behind its sapphire glass in the centre is a 48MP 1/2-inch Sony IMX586 quad sensor with 0.8 µm pixels, f/1.75 with aperture (6P) lens, with a 26 mm equivalent focal length unit, the Mi 9 Transparent Edition already f/1.47 + 7P was given a lens.
The 7P means that has seven optical lenses! Most smartphone cameras these days have "only" 5P or 6P lenses. If the camera module depth is less than 1cm, a 7-lens design is almost impossible. The main sensor, the stabilisation mechanism, has to fit in this tight space, not to mention the other electronics and focus unit. It's amazing where miniaturisation is heading in 2019.
The f/1.47 aperture is probably the largest in the industry. The Samsung S10 isn't that good either, with dual aperture technology at f/1.5 and f/2.4. The larger the aperture, the more light enters the camera sensor. It's a bit funny that the dark version of the Mi 9 lets in more light...

I wonder if you can get a ranking in the DxO test on the Huawei with this better lens. If the preliminary info is true, an international version of it is expected, even as early as MWC, whose press event is this Sunday (24 February).
Várjuk már az első tesztkészüléket nagyon. Készülünk egy nagyobb lélegzetvételű kamerás teszttel, házon belül, és kívül is. ;)
