The first electric scooter hit the streets around two decades ago and in its day it was more of a fun toy. No wonder, of course, as it had serious problems with speed and range. As a result, the breakthrough was not achieved, but there were a few companies that saw serious potential in this product group.

Thanks to the evolution of technology, including batteries and electric motors, electric scooters have undergone a huge development in the last few years. Several large and influential groups have seen the potential in these models, such as Xiaomi and they went full throttle into development, and of course suddenly many models became available at.

This has led to the emergence of electric scooters in countless countries and metropolises from America to Europe and the Far East. But many people are still stubborn and do not believe that these machines can really be used for urban transport. Are they right? We have examined this question, focusing on the important parameters.

Range

There have been huge advances in this area, with Xiaomi electric scooters, for example, now having a range of up to 45 kilometres. This means that you can ride across the city and use it to get to work.

Charging the battery is as simple as plugging it in and the battery will be fully charged in a few hours. So at the end of the day, you're ready to go home. Plus, if the battery runs out of power, you can drive them on foot the traditional way. They can also be folded up, making it relatively easy to get on trains, metros or buses.

Speed

Electric scooters usually have a top speed of 20-25 km/h. They could do much more, but they are "throttled" at the factory so that people don't ride them recklessly. Some people ignore this and there are electric scooters available that can reach speeds of 50-60 km/h, but this is almost an extreme sport considering the roads and the small wheels of the scooters. 25 km/h is about the speed at which cyclists ride their bikes.

Acceleration

In this respect, the better equipment easily beats the majority of cyclists. So there's no problem with the user getting up to "operating speed" quickly, no need to worry about bumpy rides.

Difficult terrain

Today's modern electric scooters can also go uphill, although the speed is slightly reduced depending on the weight of the passenger. But they don't slow down as much as, say, an average cyclist.

Security

If such a product is in a good technical condition, it is suitable to be used on public roads, at least this is the case with Xiaomi electric scooters. They have powerful lights front and rear, and there is no lack of an efficient braking system with ABS, so stopping should not be a problem. So they can be considered downright safer than many bikes.

Is it dangerous?

Of course it is, cotton candy can be dangerous if used incorrectly. An electric scooter can also cause falls, collisions, accidents and injuries. You have to be careful, and of course it doesn't hurt to wear protective gear.

But nowadays, a helmet, for example, is an almost obligatory accessory for a bike, if you think responsibly.

Management, management

It does not require any technical training or electronics skills at all. You can get to grips with this type of vehicle very quickly. However, it is important to know the Highway Code (even if you do not have a driving licence), especially if you want to use it on public roads. Licence According to the Highway Code you do not need, but we think it will only be for a while.

Is it suitable for urban transport?

A modern electric scooter in good condition is clearly suitable for urban transport. We can recommend it to everyone because it is quiet, environmentally friendly and takes up little space.
