It was already interesting at the presentation that the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G was re-released, only it got a NE marking, that is New Edition. But is it better or worse, cheaper or more expensive? We will now investigate.

Software

That's basically the difference between the two hardware. The software can only be compared at launch, because today they both run MIUI 12.5 and Android 11. But the NE, as you may have read earlier, will get 3 major Android updates and 4 years of security updates. The same cannot be said for the predecessor.

Processor

The hardware differences, especially in the SoC area, is now also caused by a world-changing chip shortage. As Qualcomm's Snapdragon 780G production failed, it was replaced by the 778G. But no one should think that this makes the new phone any less. The 778G processor, based on the tests, performs almost nothing less than the larger 780G. This is due to the fact that the 778G was released 2 months later than the other one, yet it was made with 6nm technology instead of 5. Still it performs the same, although the 778G supports UFS 3.1 backing technology, the other only UFS 3.0. So data handling, reading and writing is better, apps, games, pictures, etc. load faster.

Screen

The 1 gram weight loss is not physically clear what determines it, although the glass protecting the screen is an older one, only series 5, while the older one has 6. The display on the new NE is almost the same, I found no difference in physical properties. However, on Xiaomi's official website, you can read two new things in the screen section. The screen of the NE has been given Dolby Vision® and 100% sRGB classification.

All colours are more vibrant, with darker colours darker and light colours brighter and more detailed.

Colours

And towards the end you can see some difference in the colours, although the black is retained, the NE has got more interesting colours like Bubblegum Blue, Peach Pink, Snowflake White. Personally, I like the Bubblegum Blue the best, but I would love to see the Snowflake White in person.

Price

When comparing prices, compare the suggested retail price at the time of publication, not the current price of the other. I also don't want to use the HUF rate, because the exchange rate was different then than during Wednesday's presentation.

I only found prices in archives, with different labels on different pages, but most of them were the same as the proposed prices for NE. So it will cost the same as its predecessor and doesn't really bring anything new. Let's say it wouldn't have been fair to bring out the NEW edition cheaper for a phone a few months old. That would have cut off the current owners. As the stock is very limited, only the NE version will be available in the domestic market soon. You can do this from October, as the new family will only be launched in Hungary at the end of September.
