The Internet of Things Security Foundation (IoTSF), a foundation of the world's largest companies dedicated to greater security on the Internet of Things, has named Xiaomi Corporation's (Xiaomi) IoT security framework as one of the best.

Xiaomi IoT

Xiaomi, one of the world's leading smartphone and electronics device manufacturers, participated in this year's IoTSF international conference on 3-4 November, which focused on the security of IoT systems. Xiaomi, which currently boasts the world's largest AIoT platform, shared its views on the topic at the event. The IoTSF released its report at the same time as the conference, which cites Xiaomi as one of the companies with the most advanced policies for detecting vulnerabilities. The report confirms Xiaomi's global leadership in IoT security.

The IoTSF was founded in 2015 in response to the growing security threats to IoT applications. The organisation currently has over 100 members, including major companies committed to strengthening IoT security such as ARM, Cisco, Mastercard and Xiaomi. The IoTSF 2021 Virtual Conference was the seventh in a series of annual conferences hosted by the IoTSF, where participants shared their experiences on IoT system security threats, the latest research findings and groundbreaking best practices that improve the security and reliability of IoT systems.

Kevin Song, Head of Cybersecurity and Privacy Compliance at Xiaomi, gave a presentation on "Practical Experience of Implementing the IoT Cybersecurity Compliance Framework" at the conference. In it, he described how Xiaomi has built its own IoT security compliance framework using the most rigorous industry standards, such as the IoTSF Compliance Framework developed by the IoTSF or ETSI EN 303 645, one of the first coherent, internationally accepted IoT cybersecurity standards.

The IoTSF also published its report on Vulnerability Disclosure Practices, which assessed the cybersecurity vulnerability disclosure policies of individual companies. Xiaomi received a green rating in this report, which means that it not only meets the basic requirements in this area, but also meets the IoTSF's own extended threshold test. According to the report, there are only 20 large companies in the world that have been included in the "green zone", with Xiaomi being joined by companies such as Google, Microsoft, Siemens, Bosch, LG and Panasonic, among others.

AIoT Security Green List

John Moore, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the IoTSF, said, "The IoTSF's mission has always been to contribute to the greater security of IoT products so that consumers can use these devices without risk. Part of our mission is also to raise awareness among the public and IoT vendors to put cybersecurity first and not to forget the growing number of security challenges that threaten IoT systems. Xiaomi is a vendor that has taken our call seriously and is using exemplary tools to secure its IoT systems. Xiaomi has repeatedly expressed its commitment to security - for example, since 2019, it has adopted a vulnerability disclosure policy and transparently reports on how its employees comply with security policies at every stage of a product's lifecycle. We are proud that Xiaomi is a member of the IoTSF and that it is leading the way for other players in the market."

Xiaomi is one of the world's largest smartphone manufacturers. Xiaomi is also the world's largest commercial AIoT platforms is. Xiaomi, the smart devices and electronics manufacturer, distributes hundreds of products and, as of 30 June 2021, more than 374.5 million smart devices (excluding smartphones and laptops) will be connected to its AIoT platform worldwide. Xiaomi is committed to further strengthening the security of its IoT products and enhancing the customer experience.

Xiaomi is also an active member of the ioXt alliance. In July 2021, the Mi 360° Home Security Camera was awarded the Kitemark™ Certification for Residential IoT Devices by the British Standard Institution and the Xiaomi Home app was awarded the Kitemark™ Certification for Secure Digital Applications. The company was one of the first to establish a laboratory specifically dedicated to IoT security issues. Here, they develop the latest security technologies and work to provide powerful protection for the smart ecosystems that are increasingly shaping people's everyday lives.
