MIDC 2020 Xiaomi Developers Conference is the company's annual event to showcase its latest developments, ambitions and plans. Not only software but also hardware innovations will be unveiled.

The event was packed with new features for participants and spectators alike, as anyone could follow the online coverage. In another article, we'll go into a bit more detail about the new features, but for now I'll cover the most important and surprising developments.

Xiaomi has unveiled its proprietary telescopic lens technology, the only one of its kind in the world. While there were efforts to do this in the past, it was more of a camera-integrated phone, not a mobile phone camera lens replacement system. The advantage of the new technology is that it can deliver 300% more light to the sensor, better optical image stabilisation, 20% increase in stability compared to previous solutions.

The phone on show is a non-existent model, just a development version to demonstrate its capabilities. Unfortunately, no technical specifications were given, but we will know more about their new invention in time. Its mechanics strongly resemble the Mi 9T series' selfie camera functionality, of course with a drop detection sensor so that it doesn't get damaged or if it gets hit, it immediately retracts back into the phone's case. The point is that they can finally include optics that have a brutally good aperture and can also achieve external optical zoom with it. In the video, you can clearly see that focus is no longer just digital, but can be manually adjusted by decreasing or increasing the distance of the optics to create the perfect depth of field.

Now I could start spouting empty phrases about when and in what the telescopic optics will be available, I'm not going to turn into a tabloid, I don't want to attract more readers with trash and clickbait content. As soon as we know something for sure, we'll be back with the details!
