A few days ago, news broke that the Xiaomi registers mios.cn domain at the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This marks the launch of their new operating system. But now a domain belonging to a completely different industry has been registered here, namely xiaomiev.com.
The ICP/IP address/domain name information registry system of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has revealed that Xiaomi Automobile Technology Co., Ltd. filed the domain name xiaomiev.com on August 2.
Judging from the name, it is expected that this domain name will be the URL of the official Xiaomi Auto website. According to a WHOIS query, Xiaomi Automobile Technology Co., Ltd. currently has only the domain name xiaomiev.com registered.
However, according to the naming rules on Xiaomi's official website, Xiaomi's IoT development platform is iot.mi.com, the XiaoAI a xiaoai.mi.com, and Xiaomi's car is expected to be ev.mi.com according to the traditional rules. It is not excluded that xiaomiev.com will be used as an option for Defence registration.
Xiaomi Corp has won approval from China's National Development and Reform Commission to produce electric vehicles, people familiar with the matter said, a significant step towards the company's goal of producing cars early next year, Reuters reported.
The National Development and Reform Commission, which oversees new investment and manufacturing capacity in China's automotive industry, earlier this month approved Beijing-based Xiaomi Inc. to produce electric vehicles, making it the fourth company to win NDRC approval.
Xiaomi, however, still needs approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which assesses the technical and safety requirements for new car manufacturers and models.
It is reported that "dual certification" of new energy vehicles is extremely difficult to obtain. For a company to enter the field of new energy vehicles, it must both comply with the National Development and Reform Commission's "new clean electric passenger vehicle enterprise management regulations", but also comply with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's "new energy vehicle access rules", that is, to meet the "dual certification" production and sales scale.
Xiaomi has pledged to invest $10 billion in the automotive industry over more than a decade, and has set itself the goal of mass producing its first car in the first half of 2024. However, doubts have been raised over whether this timetable will be met, as the National Development and Reform Commission has been cautious in approving new products.
