They can give homeowners peace of mind and security knowing that their home is being watched. This is particularly useful for those who live alone or are often away from home.
Xiaomi has released many cameras in recent years, not just under its own name. Aquara used to lead the way with its innovative solutions, but lost interest due to regional closures. Since then, Xiaomi has only offered its own cameras to the European market, but there are many of them, with so many differences that you need to choose the right one.
Let's get the basics straight up front. If you currently have a 720p resolution camera, switching or replacing it with any of the models currently running is a step forward. Today, the default resolution, even for the cheapest Xiaomi camera, is 1080p, so there's no doubting the better image quality. While there is no change in basic services, we can remotely see what is going on at home, but it is no longer all about the quality and extra features. But what can we replace it with? I'll help you choose.
Xiaomi security cameras
The a summary of the latest series, so if you just want to choose from that, you can read it here. But if you're looking to replace the previous series, or add to your existing camera fleet, here's what I recommend.
Resolution: 720 - 1080p
The previous model series also had very excellent features, although the Mi Camera 2K Magnetic Mount has no specific successor. It was the last fixed camera that only looked in one direction, but with a wide 125º angle of view, 1296p (2K) resolution and night vision, it was also very well priced. Yet it can be seen as the successor to the Xiaomi Smart Camera C200 camera. Although it only has a resolution of 1080p, it has the same features and can rotate 360º horizontally and 108º vertically. What's more, the entry-level camera in the new series is even cheaper. Plus you can put in a 256 GB microSD card instead of 32 GB if you don't want to pay for cloud storage.
The big bang of the previous series will be hard to beat, but not impossible. A Mi Home Security Camera 360° 1080P knew everything a home security camera should know. 1080p FHD resolution, 360º "viewing angle", on-demand communication, cloud and local recording, infrared night mode, Google, Alexa and more. It was ideal for any home, plus it was well priced, which contributed greatly to the best value for money. Good news, there is a perfect successor, and it's the Xiaomi Smart Camera C200 camera. Almost exactly the same knowledge, resolution. Its viewing angle is a little larger, it handles 256 GB of storage instead of 64 GB, and it takes better pictures in daylight, backlight and at night. Plus it's even better priced than its predecessor, making it the BESTBUY category if you're just starting out or replacing a very old camera.
Sticking with this type of camera, the best replacement for any older camera that was 1080p or less is the Xiaomi Smart Camera C200.
Resolution: 1080p - 2K
If you're looking a little higher end, or want a better camera to replace your existing 1080p camera, I can recommend the best. While it's still not top of the range, there are better ones out there. Xiaomi Smart Camera C300 camera to meet all your needs. Anno the Mi 360° Home Security Camera 2K and Per indoor security cameras could have this resolution, which is C300 provides today. With 2K (1296p) resolution, its best feature is night-time colour recording. This is made possible by the large f1.4 aperture and 6P lens, almost making it a camera for a mid-range phone. As for features, it not only has human shape recognition, but even tracking! So any of the older top cameras is a worthy successor to the Xiaomi Smart Camera C300.
Resolution: 2K+
In this category, I can really only mention the top of the top, and I can't think of a predecessor. But the Xiaomi Smart Camera C400 can produce better footage than any other. The lens is the same as the C300, but the sensor has a 4 MP resolution, which gives 2.5K quality. With a viewing angle of 360 / 108º, two-way communication is like being at home. Besides the resolution, it has one more extra feature that should be a boon for everyone, and that's 5 GHz Wi-Fi support! This allows fast and secure connections wherever you are in the world. However, one thing it lacks is night colour recording. Unfortunately, it can only record in black and white, but it's the best quality possible!
Outdoor camera
The above, although mentioned here and there, are designed for indoor use only. So don't put them outside, because they can't take the extra cold/warmth, and water is a killer for them. But luckily, Xiaomi also has an outdoor weather stationary camera so that you can catch not only the inside of your home, but also the people lurking around the house. There isn't a big selection, so I can't make many recommendations. So far. Mi Wireless Outdoor Security Camera 1080p was the protector of our home, which is still a great outdoor camera today. With 1080p FHD resolution, it has a 130º angle of view, IP65 water resistance, and can withstand temperatures from -20º to 50º.
Your successor, Xiaomi Outdoor Camera AW200, he carried on all the goodness of the old. The resolution is still 1080p, but it has a better camera unit. Better aperture, more and cleaner lenses, and a more modern sensor. So the new one takes much nicer pictures than the old one. Plus, it's got the C300 night colour recording option! Plus, it now has two-way communication, so you can remotely ward off an intruder or your favourite mother-in-law...
And the news is not over yet. It's almost halved in size, so it can fit anywhere, not just outdoors. And finally, two big differences compared to the previous series. Until now, the outdoor camera had a built-in battery, without a cable solution. It lasted 90 days normally and needed to be charged to keep going. It didn't work on its own, you needed an indoor unit to connect to the camera. Forget that Xiaomi Outdoor Camera AW200 in the case of. Cable carries the electricity, so it works almost forever, it does not run down. It's a bit more work to install, but all you need is your existing router to connect to the camera. I'm not even going to mention the price, because that's going to make your choice for good.
But and there's a but. If you want something even better than that, the latest outdoor camera, the Xiaomi Outdoor Camera AW300! From AW200 has all the goodness of 2K, but it has a resolution of 2304 x 1296 pixels! Plus, with enhanced colour night vision, you'll spot anything. With intelligent recognition it can distinguish animals from humans and can also automatically sound or light an alarm.

When you choose the Xiaomi cameras available today, you're sure to choose quality and reliability. The new range is better than the last and even better value, despite the economic situation! If you need a cheap and simple camera, then the Xiaomi Smart Camera C200 is yours. If you need a full-fledged one for almost everything, then Xiaomi Smart Camera C400 choose.
