In the past six years, Xiaomi has become a huge TV manufacturer, and it's no surprise that it's already the number one Smart TV manufacturer in China and India. And with the help of Huami, it is also gaining prominence in the wearable activity trackers and smartwatches category.

After Xiaomi announced the Mi TV Pro series a few months ago, the manufacturer has already focused on the next series, the new Mi TV 5 series, which will be launched on 5 November. Xiaomi has confirmed that the new Mi TV 5 models will come with a premium Samsung Quantum Dot display panel. The technology is nothing new today, with the first examples having appeared around 4-5 years ago, at astronomical prices. The technology is also used by TCL, Samsung, LG, Sony and is becoming more and more popular around the world thanks to cheaper production every year.

Over the past 6 years or so, Xiaomi has tried all new technologies, be it OLED displays, 3D or curved displays. Finally, it adapts to the current market trends and has its own TV factories in both China and India. It goes without saying that it is the market leader in the two most populous countries in the world, where it is no match for the latest competition (Huawei/Honor, OnePlus...). The Mi TV series tries to meet all needs, so it produces devices with multiple features from low-cost 32″ HD Ready models to upcoming 8K displays up to 75″. All models are Smart, i.e. Android TV, or Android-based PatchWall with extra features developed for the region. There is a good reason why they are not flooding the European market, as CE certification is extra money, just as building a complete service backbone in the EU would be a significant financial investment for the manufacturer. Moreover, they would have to build all this in a headwind where they would have to compete with giants such as LG or Samsung. These South Korean manufacturers also have European factories, reducing import duties and significant transport costs. Not to mention the additional "B" brands, as there are dozens of other names for cheap TVs, alongside big names like Philips, Panasonic, Toshiba, Sony, TCL.

So the Mi TV 5 Series 4K QLED (because it's louder, right?) will use a panel that covers a wide colour gamut of NTSC 108%. The Quantum Dot panel is likely to be Samsung which is currently at the forefront of the development and production of these models. The current generation Mi TV 4 series comes with IPS LCD or VA LED panels , so with the Mi TV 5 series, Xiaomi is aiming to enter the premium segment.

Xiaomi's move towards quantum dot technology is not surprising. The recently launched OnePlus TV also features Samsung's premium QLED panels. So the Mi TV maker is trying to enter the premium segment with a new generation of models.

Further details are not yet known. The November 5 launch will reveal hardware specifications, system, display sizes, pricing and availability. Although we can't expect a European release this year, we can still hope that we might get some of Xiaomi's QLED TV models in 2020.

Xiaomi smartwatch

Yesterday Xiaomi officially confirmed that it will unveil a new smartwatch called the Mi CC9 Pro (Mi Note 10) at the event on 5 November. Today, the CEO of Xiaomi, Xiaomi CEO also showed render images of the upcoming Xiaomi smartwatch, which looks exactly like the Apple Watch. This is also true of the Amazfit GTS.

The Xiaomi smartwatch will be available with a two-colour strap (for now), in stylish black and silver. Its curved rectangular display is very similar to the Apple Watch series. In fact, the crown placement is almost exactly the same as on the Apple Watch. Even the power button is positioned in the same way. There is no denying that this Xiaomi smartwatch lacks the original personality.
It's no secret that Xiaomi CEO He was an Apple fan from the start, and that love has returned in the first Xiaomi smartphones, and in the MIUI system. The Mi Cloud itself is very similar to Apple's cloud, but served up in a way that is tailored to Asian needs. The design cues of the Xiaomi ecosystem are as clean and modern as Apple's products.

Although we still have to wait for the official unveiling, we wouldn't be surprised if the Xiaomi smartwatch is already being talked about as a cheap Apple Watch clone by the press and Apple fans.

We've already said this about the Amazfit Bip, as we've said about the Amazfit GTS also took the same form. The designers' imagination is rather limited, as they don't have much choice besides circles and squares. Although the Amazfit X is trying to counter this, we'll see how successful it is next year.

A few days ago, Xiaomi revealed that its new watch will be a real smartwatch, not just another activity (or sports) tracker. Today the manufacturer has released more details about the specifications.

In addition to a high-resolution OLED display, the Xiaomi smartwatch also features a powerful Qualcomm CPU, independent GPS, NFC, Wi-Fi / Bluetooth module. It also has an independent linear motor, as well as a speaker and microphone. The battery capacity will also be large enough for several days of use. Finally, eSIM support is also mentioned, which is a given for the Apple Watch, among others. No news about ECG function.
The operating system is the much anticipated Android Wear so the number of applications will be more abundant than with the previous closed platform Amazfit OS. The watch is available in the MiJia manufactures.

Although the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Smartwatch has not been given a unique styling cue, its features and pricing could make it a hot seller in the global market. With eSIM support and a speaker/microphone pair, the watch will be able to make phone calls as well as control AI functions.
We look forward to the presentation, which we will report on in writing.
