In February 2020, Xiaomi moved up to 3rd place, ahead of Huawei

The February 2020 Global Smartphone Market Report by research agency Strategy Analytics was released on 19 March, showing that Xiaomi overtook Huawei in February for the first time in terms of shipments and sales, becoming the world's third largest smartphone manufacturer.

The report shows that global smartphone shipments in February this year fell by 38% year-on-year (to 62 million units), while sales fell by 39% year-on-year (to 65 million units), due to the new coronavirus outbreak.

Specifically, the Samsung fell 13% and 17% in global shipments and sales respectively, but remains in first place.

According to Apple remained second, although they were also have been severely affected by the fall. Shipments fell by 27% and sales by 39%.

The Xiaomi surpassed Huawei in both shipments and sales in February to jump to third place. This is mainly because online sales are less affected than offline physical stores. Xiaomi's February shipments decreased by 32% and sales by 29% compared to the same period last year.

The Huawei has also fallen to fourth place in terms of deliveries and sales. Huawei's February shipments were down by 69% and sales by 60% compared to the same period last year. However, the manufacturer's 4G stock-out also negatively impacted February sales.

According to OPPO February shipments and sales were both good enough for fifth place, with 49%s and 52%s down, and vivo was sixth (54%/50%).

In the Top 10 list also included in the Lenovo-Motorola, LG and Realme.

Of course there are other surveys where Huawei is slightly better, but it is undeniable that 2020 will not be their year. Let's hope for uninterrupted supplies, a successful fight against the virus and a rapid recovery of the economy.
