Anyone who has ever thought about building a smart home has been the first, or among the first, to install a heat and humidity meter, alongside the central unit. Then, or alongside the gateway, you got many other things like motion or door sensors.

The new thermometer and will only start selling on 22 September, with Community funding. First round at 49 Yuan ~ 2,255 Ft with free shipping in China. There's not much new about the thermometer, but it's the little things that matter.

The clever little gadget essentially shows the temperature to the decimal place and the humidity to the same degree. There's nothing new about this, there are already things like this on the market that could be used to check the Danube. The thing about the device is the display.

Screen

The new thermometer and humidity gauge display e-ink technology, the electronic ink or electronic paper technology. "The basic part of electronic paper is the millions of tiny microcapsules, which are about as wide as a human hair. The microcapsule contains positively charged white and negatively charged black ink particles floating in transparent oil. When a positive electric field is applied, the repulsive effect causes the positively charged white ink particles to move to the top of the microcapsule, making them visible to a reader viewing the display from above. This makes the surface appear white at that point. At the same time, the electric field pulls the black dye particles to the bottom of the microcapsule, hiding them. The reverse of the process brings the black dye particles to the top, which form a black dot on the screen. The display only consumes power when its content changes. For example, if you are looking at an e-book reader, you only need power when you are turning the page, but as long as you are reading that page (and the content of the display is not changing), the display consumes nothing." - writes Wikipedia

Following the crude technical background, in kitchen jargon this means that the device only uses power when you need to change something on the screen. So the display does not require any power to see the values on it. So it can go up to 2 years on the CR2450 battery that powers the thermometer!

Hardware

The thermometer and humidity display measures 35×35 mm and is fully paper-like. It is easy to read and provides a pleasant experience with a wide viewing angle. The back of the device is magnetic, so it can be easily stowed away, even on the refrigerator door. Of course, you can also place it on a table or on the wall with the support on the back. It has a built-in Swiss Sensirion high precision digital sensor that also detects subtle changes in temperature and humidity, which then reminds the owner to adjust the temperature and humidity in time to improve indoor comfort.

Software

Of course, like all smart devices, it has Bluetooth connectivity so you can see the heat in your home on your phone. Although Bluetooth is a direct connection between your phone and the device, you'll need a BT MESH gateway to connect online. Once you have all this and have connected it to the Xiaomi Home app, you can enjoy new features. Such as the notification when entering temperature and humidity values, which coincides with the baby monitor function. Here we will also receive a notification if the temperature or humidity is outside the baby's comfort zone.

After the Chinese release, it will probably be available on the international market at a higher price, but it will still be worth buying.
