You also remember Xiaomi Mi 9T and Pro phones? It was the first Xiaomi phone with a selfie camera protruding from the housing. Xiaomi thought further and dreamed up a prismatic periscope camera based on this same principle. The patent was accepted.
According to the official website of China State Intellectual Property Office, Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co., Ltd. today , a patent for “electronic equipment and hidden cameras for hidden cameras” was granted.
The abstract shows that the electronic device consists of a housing, a camera module mounted in the housing and a retractable reflective component. The housing has an opening through which the reflecting component can protrude from the housing. The reflective component may reflect the received image back to the camera module used for imaging. It effectively protects the camera module, reduces the space occupied and increases the number of pixels.
The full-screen display on mobile phones has gradually become a trend of expectations. The front-facing camera often affects the occupancy rate of the full screen, so devices with a hidden camera are slowly entering the market.
However, the liftable camera is limited by space, the number of pixels is low, and the camera's flexible circuit board can be easily damaged by sliding. The need for lifting lengthens the required circuit board and means higher costs. The space ratio of the camera module makes the space utilization of the camera module poor.
According to the patent's accompanying drawings, the mobile phone is expected to use the front and rear cameras to share the gadget, without the need for telescopic movement, which could improve camera performance.
