Xiaomi unveiled its new foldable phone in China on Monday, almost as a surprise. Although there were a few rumours about it, what was revealed was almost a shock. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 introduced a lot of new features and with incredible knowledge has beaten the market.
The first and foremost for Xiaomi was to shrink the size of the phone below the competition. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Huawei MateX 2 were the big contenders, iPhone was out of the question for now because they don't have such a phone yet. The thinnest so far was the MateX 2, which is 14.7 mm when folded. The Mix Fold 2, brace yourselves, is only 11.2 mm when folded! And unfolded it's only 5.4 mm (non-camera side)!
If we go beyond the looks, the size of the two screens has also gone beyond the competition. The external screen has a 21:9 aspect ratio and a diagonal of 6.56″. It has the dimensions of a completely standard "big screen" phone with flexible AMOLED technology. Fold it out and you're presented with an 8.02″ 2K+ Super Vision screen. Like the external screen, it has a 120Hz refresh rate, but it's made with a new technology called Eco OLED.

The Mix Fold 2 cameras are already known from the Xaiomi 12S Leica series. The same team also made the foldable phone. The main camera is a Sony IMX766 with a 50 MP sensor, 8 PM behind the telephoto lens and 13 MP ultra-wide. The selfie camera has a resolution of 20 MP. By the way, the selfie camera is only needed in the quick closed mode, and when opened, the main camera can be used for such purposes using the external screen. Like on the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra.
A major technological innovation of the Mix Fold 2 is the hinge, which folds the screen less than the competition. This preserves the quality and condition of the screen for many years to come. It will not crack or craze. But it can still fold 18% thinner than its predecessor and the mechanism is 35% lighter.
In terms of performance, it's packed with the latest Qualcomm snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, with all the latest features. Even with its outstanding performance, it doesn't get as hot as its predecessor, so they've managed to reduce the cooling to fit into a 5.4 mm space. And there's another incredible solution. It fits a 4,500 mAh dual-cell battery with 67W fast charge.
MIUI Fold 13
The Mix Fold 2 doesn't just have a simple MIUI interface, but a system optimised specifically for this phone. When folded, MIUI Fold 13 looks just like any other MIUI interface. But unfolded, you don't get the same unfolded as you would with a regular droid foldable phone, you get an extension of it. Not just the icons and widgets on the home screen, but also the apps are adapted to this solution.
The latest and most useful feature of MIUI Fold 13 is the split screen. Although you've seen it in recent phones, it's split vertically rather than horizontally. It's like having two phones in your hand! They've even added to this by allowing you to create separate icons, which opens two apps on either side. Plus you can even open apps separately in floating windows on the split screen!
Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 price
Don't expect a phone like this for a good price for Hungarian salaries. We are talking about very expensive technology and forward-looking innovations. The cheapest Mix Fold 2 is 8,999 Yuan ~ 529,530 Ft, with 12 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage. The 12/512 GB is 9,999 Yuan ~ 588,370 Ft and the 12GB/1TB is 11,999 Yuan ~ 706,050 Ft. These are Chinese prices! I dare not even predict how much they would cost here at home...
