As almost everyone already knows, today, on 27.03.2018 at 8am Shanghai time, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s, the first Xiaomi phone with Snapdragon 845 chipset, was finally unveiled, alongside the next generation of Mi Laptops, the Mi Gaming Laptop and a small new addition, the Mi AI Speaker Mini, which represents the third generation.

This time the launch took place in Shanghai, not Beijing.

The usual crowds, snaking queues to be published have now been left out, a treat saved for the Mi7 launch. On the huge display in the room, everyone could follow the beautiful pictures and videos of the presentation, the full presentation by Xiaomi's CEO, Xiaomi CEO one of you led him down.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s

The next top of the range full display Mix 2s is not a completely new device, although the biggest difference from its predecessor is the overall interior and the camera module on the back, which is not noticeable from the front. The inside, or the soul of the device, gets the most advanced processor unit, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 is the company's second-generation 10nm processor, delivering 10% performance acceleration and 15% power consumption savings over its predecessor. In addition to the 8 Kyro 385 cores, each running at 2.8 GHz, Andreno 630 is responsible for graphics performance, along with Qualcomm Spectra™ 280 ISP image processing system for the best video capture and up to 60 frames per second UHD video recording. Of course, the biggest fat new feature is the AI platform, powered by the 3rd generation Qualcomm® Hexagon™ 685 DSP, which delivers richer picture, sound, XR and gaming experiences.

Of course, compared to its predecessor, there is no shortage of GSM bands, then all are supported, including the 800 mHz B20, so important in our country. Other wireless technologies are the usual, WiFi 2.4/5GHz 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wifi Direct, WiFi display and Bluetooth 5.0 with AAC/aptX/aptX-HD audio support. There's also multi-function NFC for shopping, access control and more.

Thanks to artificial intelligence, not only the imaging has improved, but also the graphics, or game performance. It's currently the most brutally powerful SoC in the world, not to mention the fact that it's beating the recently released Samsung Galaxy S9, even though it uses the same processor.

Camera

The camera of the Mi Mix 2s is the biggest improvement over its predecessor (except for the SoC, of course), doubling the size of last year's model and getting a vertical layout instead of horizontal, like the iPhone X (we should forget about this awkward comparison). Yes, it's a better camera layout, let's move on from that.

Arrangement

The double rear camera isn't new, just the layout, as we've had this improvement in the Mi series so far, but as it turns out, most of us shoot lying down and the depth of field adjustment wasn't the best, so it was better to put it in the horizontal position. Plus with the two lenses you get optical zoom, although this is only achieved by switching between the two lenses, you still get portrait mode which highlights the subject in the background and blurs the background, this and many other features have been improved with the help of AI.

The four-axis optical image stabilisation is nothing new, but the 1.4µm pixel diameter is a real improvement, allowing it to digitise more light and produce better images or video in low light.

Dual Pixel AF is not a modern technology either, it's just that it hasn't been possible to implement it on this scale yet, first used by Canon in their EOS cameras, which is based on two photodiodes under one pixel that read data separately when autofocus phase detection is used and together when imaging. As a result, no additional imaging process is required for AF-linked pixels, ensuring fast focusing and maximum image quality when shooting stills and video.

This technology brings with it excellent image quality in low light conditions, lightning fast focusing, no darkness in low light and no need to play with shutter speeds to capture a stunning image.

DOXMark is a laboratory of the French-based photography company DOX, which provides image quality certification for standalone cameras, lenses and mobile devices. In this test, the Mix 2s achieved its best ever score for stills, with a score of 101, unimaginable for many. For stills, it scored 88, giving it an overall score of 97. Yes, that deserves an "Eyewha" nod of the head.

Google ARCore

The Google ARCore. Most of us are just looking at it, are they eating it or drinking it? It's not new, it's just a little different. Google has been trying AR technology since 2014, but hasn't been able to do anything with it, because only a few devices could provide the hardware to make it happen. After Apple (ARKit), it was successfully implemented for the general public, made editable for multiple devices and thus started to spread. Through mobile technology, we will now ignore the fact that Sony has already implemented this in 2012...

No more wires! But there is! :D I mean, you don't have to plug it into your phone to charge the Mi Mix 2s anymore, because they've incorporated the latest Qi wireless charging technology, with not just any charger, a universal device that's compatible with almost everything, hold on to your hat, for $15! Just to give you a sense of the difference, Apple's charger is 199$ and Xiaomi is compatible with the iPhone X phone. :)

The presentation continued, as we had predicted earlier, not just one product, but three, but we didn't know what the third one would be, apart from the small speaker. Well the Blackshark Gamer phone didn't work, instead we got a Gamer laptop.

Mi Gaming Laptop

Well, we didn't expect that! But we didn't and there were no rumours about it. With this move, Xiaomi has entered the gamer laptop and it looks like he wants a piece of the market, which is not impossible with such a monster. I don't know about anyone else, the previous series couldn't hide its shame when it came to games, true our test didn't specialise in games and WOT chased the bits in it, but it held its own. But this one will!

Mi Gaming laptop specifikáció

Make the mistake of bragging about raw numbers. The Mi Gaming laptop comes with a choice of two top-end processors, and within that, a memory and back-end pair differentiates it in price, so you can choose from four configurations to suit your budget. The most brutal is the seventh-generation Intel Core i7 processor with Nvidia Geforce 1060, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD. For this, a hefty RMB 8,999 ~ $ 1,432 ~ 360,950 should be shelled out to the manufacturer. The full range:

Intel Core i7 + Nvidia Geforce 1060 + 16GB RAM + 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD ~ 360.950 Ft

Intel Core i7 + Nvidia Geforce 1060 + 8GB RAM + 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD ~ 320.840 Ft

Intel Core i5 + Nvidia Geforce 1060 + 8GB RAM + 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD ~ 280.730 Ft

Intel Core i5 + Nvidia Geforce 1050 + 8GB RAM + 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD ~ 240.620 Ft

Connectors for your gaming laptop

Compared to its predecessors, this gaming laptop is neatly de-cluttered with connectors:

  • 4 USB 3.0
  • 1 USB-C (4K video and data)
  • 1 HDMI 2.0 (4K video)
  • 1 LAN
  • 3-in-1 card reader
  • Headphones
  • Microphone

Its keyboard is on trend, with RGB backlighting to help you hit all the keys at night in the heat of battle. The screen is 15.6″ widescreen, FHD resolution, 178-degree viewing angle, 72% NTSC colour gamut, MATT LCD display. Above it is a 720 pixel webcam with microphone. The sound system remains the usual brutal-metal quality as in the Mi Notebook Pro, so it's quite enjoyable to play with without a headset.

But you can't fit that much iron in a thin house. Its dimensions are 20.9mm thick, but it can also be used for working out, as it weighs 2.7 kg. The user experience is provided by the pre-installed Windows 10 Home Edition and if you want to work with it, you'll find Office 2016 Home and the cheaper Student version.

Mi AI Speaker Mini

This small speaker is actually a forerunner all personal assistants using artificial intelligence. It is true that the presentation is in Chinese, but let's ignore that for now and imagine that we can understand it in Hungarian. In addition to being able to ask it almost anything and access 35 million books, music and other information instantly, you can also control your existing Smart Home devices with instructions. Is the world a lazy place, or are we just addicted to the instant flow of information? Who's to say, but did you ever think during some Sci-Fi movie, "gee it would be nice to have it here already"? Yes! It's just that we're moving slowly... Is it good for us? Now the Skynet believers are nodding grimly that I told you so... No, we're not there yet for our speaker to wake up. :)

What does this little gadget really do? It's powered by a Cortex -A7 Quad-Core 1.2GHz processor, has 4 microphones monitoring your every word and, in addition to voice control, you can also use the buttons on the top to turn off the microphone, adjust the volume and control the music. Bluetooth 4.1 lets you not only play music, but also use it as a speakerphone. World time, diary, news, sports events/results, calculator, calendar, crop advisor, kitchen assistant, travel agency, bedtime story service and much more. Of course, all services are available via an app from anywhere, on Android and iOS!

The prices listed above are all Chinese prices, they will be more expensive at a dealer, especially in Hungary. As soon as we can, we will present the devices, and we will be back soon with more details on the three products!
