Wireless charging smartphone penetration in the overall market reached a record high of 26%, up 2% year-on-year. Despite the global smartphone market facing a downturn, the enduring strength of the 'premiumisation' trend remains evident. This resilience is closely linked to the expanding market for wireless charging, which is primarily found in flagship smartphone models. Anticipated developments in wireless charging technology, specifically labelled Qi 2, could serve as a catalyst for growth in demand for wireless charging.



In terms of Android brands, Samsung accounts for 51% of the market share with the Galaxy S series, but in the third quarter, the brand's sales fell by 2% year-on-year, resulting in a 13% decline in sales market share. Google introduced wireless charging technology in the affordable Pixel 7a, which more than doubled sales.

This year, the wireless charging smartphone market is forecast to grow by 2% year-on-year thanks to strong sales of Huawei's Mate 60 series and the positive impact of Samsung's newly launched S23 FE series. Consequently, the share of the total smartphone market for wireless charging smartphones is expected to increase by 2.3% points to reach a significant 30%.

With the introduction of the Qi 2.0 wireless charging standard, based on Apple's MagSafe technology, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has confirmed that Qi2-compatible chargers will be available by the end of 2023. The expected evolution of wireless charging technology is poised to act as a catalyst for the growth in demand for wireless charging.
