Many people do not know that the concept of encryption in online communication does not mean that messages are not accessible to others: most of the time, the platform operator has access to messages, calls, everything. But the situation is different with end-to-end encryption.
Microsoft Teams end-to-end encryption allows the content of calls to be heard only by the two parties involved in the communication.
Currently, calls can be recorded using a feature that can be enabled by administrators. It was therefore not the most appropriate tool for sharing sensitive information.
However, this will change from today, as 1:1 calls (voice and video) will be encrypted. The feature is currently in beta and needs to be enabled separately.
Microsoft 365 users can also encrypt conversations, shared files and other content.
End-to-end encryption is increasingly on the agenda, especially in the context of Facebook scandals, wiretapping and other data leaks.
A company can be trusted, but it is best if there is no need to trust and the company does not have access to the data, only the user.
